SMARTer Kids Foundation Makes $23,000 In-Kind Donation to University of Alberta

The SMARTer Kids Foundation equips new University of Alberta teaching labs with leading-edge technology

Calgary, Alberta --- May 3, 1999 --- As part of its ongoing commitment to provide high-tech solutions to schools and universities, the SMARTer Kids Foundation has donated $23,000 worth of SMART products to the University of Alberta's new computing science facility. This donation includes two SMART Boards with Floor Stands, a Rear Projection SMART Board and SMART Meeting Pro software. With this equipment, students and staff at the University can access multimedia resources, share information and facilitate learning.

"This donation to the University of Alberta is just the first step in what we hope will be a long, mutually beneficial relationship between the University of Alberta and the SMARTer Kids Foundation," says Sandra Walliser, managing director of the SMARTer Kids Foundation. "Preparing students for a technology-driven future means bringing technology into classrooms today. The SMARTer Kids Foundation is working to make this vision a reality at the University of Alberta."

"These SMART Boards are a welcome addition to our faculty," says Dick Peter, Dean of Science at the University of Alberta. "We are excited to be able to install them in our new computing science labs. We applaud the SMARTer Kids Foundation's leadership and welcome its partnership in our new, state-of-the-art computing science facility. We look forward to working with the Foundation in the future to incorporate this leading-edge technology into more of our labs and classrooms."

The SMARTer Kids Foundation is committed to working with Alberta schools to ensure that students have access to the latest information and technology. In the fall of 1998, the Foundation made a similar donation to the University of Calgary Learning Commons. SMART products were installed to benefit both students and educators, and the response has been extremely positive. By incorporating leading-edge technology into their curricula, Alberta universities are producing graduates who are technology-wise and job-ready. SMART actively recruits graduates from both the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary for its growing staffing needs.
