SMARTer Kids Foundation launches $460,000 competitive Grant program to enhance technology integration in teacher-training facilities

The SMARTer Kids Foundation PREP Grant covers 80% of list price for SMART products

Calgary, Alberta --- June 7, 1999 --- In today's technology-driven society, it is imperative that educators are trained to implement technology effectively in the classroom. In response to the need for more technology training for teachers, the SMARTer Kids Foundation announces a $460,000 competitive Grant program for teacher-training centers for the purchase of SMART products. Open to all teacher-preparation facilities, the PREP Grant is 80% of the list price on a SMART Board 560, SMART Board 580 or Floor Stand 570. In addition, all Grant recipients will receive a copy of SynchronEyes, SMART's new classroom instruction and computer-control software that creates interactive, focused learning environments. With SMART products in training centers, teachers will learn to effectively integrate technology into the curriculum to produce high-tech, collaborative educational settings.

"Teacher training is a focal point for introducing change into the education system," says Sandra Walliser, managing director of the SMARTer Kids Foundation. "The PREP Grant is an important tool for preparing the teachers of tomorrow to use technology effectively in the classroom. In the hands of teachers who have the skills and knowledge to use it, technology is a powerful and effective teaching tool that enhances student learning."
