2005–2006 SMARTer Kids™ Grant for NEC Visual Presentation Products
FAQs

How can I seek additional funding?
A SMARTer Kids Grant can be used to leverage opportunities for grants from other sources. You are encouraged to seek matching grants that will further reduce the cost of purchasing SMART products for your institution. To view a list of some matching grants please visit www.education.smarttech.com/grants

Which institutions are eligible to receive the Grant?
Grants are available to all public or private, accredited, not-for-profit, educational institutions involved in K–12, higher education, vocational and technical instruction or administration. Additionally, not-for-profit museums, libraries and science centers involved in K–12 or higher education are eligible. SMARTer Kids Grants are available to qualifying institutions located in the United States and Canada. Projects that include locations outside these areas will require special approval from the Foundation.

What is the Grant amount?
A Grant amount of 12–57 percent of the suggested list price is awarded on a per-unit basis for eligible NEC visual presentation products.

What is the deadline for applying for and utilizing a SMARTer Kids Grant?
Applications for a 2005–2006 SMARTer Kids Grant may be submitted to the Foundation at any time prior to midnight, September 30, 2006. Grant applications will be processed and Grants awarded as received. Grant recipients have until October 31, 2006, to use their Grants, after which time their 2005–2006 Grants will expire. However, applications received between August 1, 2006, and September 30, 2006, for which a Grant has been approved, but not used, will be automatically reprocessed and approved by the Foundation under the new guidelines for the 2006–2007 Grant year.

How does the Foundation decide how Grants will be awarded?
You must submit a completed Grant application that includes a written description of your intended use of NEC products. If you think there may be some question about eligibility, please provide sufficient details to allow us to make the proper assessment. A Grant application committee will evaluate applications and award Grants at its sole discretion.

The Grant approval process requires you to specify a SMART education reseller. You may select the reseller with whom you prefer to work by naming it as your preferred reselling partner (PRP) on the Grant application. If a PRP is not indicated on the Grant application, the Foundation will work with you to have one appointed. The PRP is the only reseller that is authorized to fulfill your Grant.

How will I know if my Grant application is approved?
The Foundation will notify you of the committee's decision by e-mail or fax. The Foundation will use reasonable effort to notify you within 5 working days if your application is received online. Faxed or mailed applications will be processed within 15 working days. If awarded, the Grant notification letter will state your Grant approval number and the name of the PRP.

What is the next step after the Grant is approved?
Upon approval of your Grant, the Foundation will also notify your PRP, who will then contact you to discuss your product requirements and assist you with the purchase of your NEC products.

How do I use the Grant?
Your Grant is used when your PRP deducts the Grant amount per-unit from the gross purchase price of your NEC product. Your Grant is not cash, but it can be used for multiple NEC product purchases throughout the Grant year. We have asked that you estimate how many NEC products you will purchase on your Grant application. Please contact the foundation by phone or e-mail should your institution wish to purchase more units than are approved for your Grant.

What happens if an institution applies for a new Grant with a different PRP?
The Foundation does not permit duplicate Grants in any particular Grant year. Accordingly, and subject to the exceptions noted below, the Foundation will not approve the new Grant application.

The Foundation recognizes that certain educational institutions may have separate districts, departments, divisions or purchasing groups. So long as such districts, departments, divisions and/or purchasing groups are applying for a Grant on their own group's behalf (and subject to the other conditions for approval under the program) the Foundation will not withhold approval of a Grant application from such separate districts, departments, divisions or purchasing groups.

Of course, if an institution wishes to change its PRP then it may do so by notifying the Foundation.

Will a product price or Grant percentage change affect my Grant award?
In the event of a list price decrease of a qualifying NEC product or Grant percentage change before the Grant has been utilized, the Foundation reserves the right to decrease the Grant amount awarded. Should this situation occur, the net amount that you would pay would not be greater than the original net amount, exclusive of taxes, shipping, training and installation costs, if any.

To whom do I send my purchase order?
Please submit your purchase order to your PRP, being sure to indicate your SMARTer Kids Grant number. Your PRP will invoice you for the list price of the NEC product less the Grant amount applicable per product.

Are there any other costs associated with the purchase?
Your PRP may add taxes, shipping, installation and training costs, as you may both agree.

What support is available from my PRP?
Your PRP will help you determine the NEC visual presentation products that best meet your needs. In addition, the PRP can help with the completion of the Grant application and coordinate the delivery and setup of your NEC products.
