Molasses

September 23, 2004

Hi friends,
It has been a very busy week around our town. We had flooding in our community and the surrounding towns because of all the rain from Ivan the hurricane. Our school had water in some of the classrooms but it was not too bad. Other places around us had water up to the second floor of their buildings. We live near the Ohio River and when it rains a lot the water floods the low areas. It can be really scary. Molasses was safe the whole time and we are all safe too.

It has been dry and sunny for six days now and things are getting back to normal.

Three of the kindergarten children have shared some stories about themselves and what Molasses has done this week.

“There was a really bad flood. My house got flooded in the front. Molasses did not get flooded out. The rain moved the rocks into the creek and made like a wall to stop any balls from going into the water. I brought lots of coins for the flood people,” said Kyler.

“We planted fall flowers yesterday to celebrate the first day of fall season. We planted tulip bulbs, daffodil bulbs, and pansy flowers. We will wait until spring to see the tulips and daffodils grow. Molasses helped with the garden,” said Amber.

“We made fall leaves to celebrate the first day of fall. We used little sponges and paint to make the leaves. I liked painting the leaves. I made three leaves. We will put the leaves up on the wall. Happy Fall to you!” said Allie.
