I am having fun
in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Yesterday, the second and third graders had
an enrichment day. We went on a field trip. First we went to Petroglyph
National Monument, which is on the west side of town. Petroglyphs are marks
Native Americans purposely made in the rocks. Some people call it rock art.
The petroglyphs I saw were made between the years 1300 and 1660. |

We went to old
town Albuquerque. Albuquerque is older than the United States. It first
became a town in 1706, and was ruled by Spain at that time. Like all Spanish
towns, it has a plaza. I got to play with my friends on the gazebo that
is in the center of the plaza. |

There are many shops in Old Town. I wanted a new hat, but as my friends
said about the first one I tried on, "This hat is muy grande!" |

We visited the
San Felipe de Neri Church, which was first established in 1793. I had never
seen such a big cactus as the prickly pear that grows right in the courtyard
of the church. |

This is me at the Rattlesnake Museum, which is in also in old town. Albuquerque
is in a desert and rattlesnakes live in this area. We didn't have much
time there, but we saw some big snakes. I was glad that they were all
behind glass! |

I love the swings! |

Recess really wore
me out, but after a bit of rest, we went to the foothills of the Sandia
Mountains. The kids in Albuquerque are very lucky. They have a mountain
right at the eastern edge of town! |

I learned that the western slope, where we went, is much drier than the
eastern slope, which has many trees and gets much more snow. We walked near
Embudo Canyon. It was fun to go for a hike in the fresh air! |

Here are some photos of the cacti and grasses I saw in the mountains.
It looks very different here than it did in Canada! |

More cacti and grass. I wonder what my next stop will look like... |
