| In selecting participants for the Connections program, preference will be given to applicants whose schools meet the following qualifications: |

Are public or private, accredited, not-for-profit institutions that serve a student population from K-6 or higher |
 |
Possess an understanding of the benefits that their students will accrue by participating in the program |
 |
Are willing and able to commit to the program for a period of one year |
 |
Demonstrate strong administrative and district support for participation |
 |
Find value in students and teachers making connections with peers across the United States and Canada |

Expectations for Participating Teachers
Teachers wishing to participate in the Connections program must meet the following qualifications: |

Teach sixth grade |
 |
Have a computer, projector and SMART Board interactive whiteboard installed in their classroom |
 |
Be able to participate in the web-based professional development sessions the summer before the program begins |
 |
Be able to attend and actively participate in the Calgary student visit at the end of the program |
 |
Have experience implementing programs or projects that enhance their mandated curriculum |
 |
Be an experienced SMART Board user who demonstrates a personal commitment to using technology in their teaching |
 |
Be willing to devote an appropriate amount of time to collaborative Connections projects to ensure their completion in an efficient manner |
 |
Maintain regular contact with the Connections program manager and provide ongoing feedback and input into the program |
 |
Show enthusiasm for and dedication to integrating technology into their day-to-day teaching |
