Louisiana Teacher of the Year
Ms Forshag
is a teacher at Landry Middle School in Hahnville, Louisiana. She has
been teaching for twenty-three years and teaches Reading, English/Language
Arts and American History.
What are your beliefs
about teaching?
"Teaching is the most exciting profession because it incorporates
so many skills and practices! I am a life-long learner and try to convey
that to my students. Learning should be fun and contagious I want
my students to 'catch the disease.'"
How are your beliefs
incorporated in your teaching style?
"My class is interactive, student-centered and safe. Kids are free
to explore, experiment and even fail. There are lessons to be learned
in each attempt."
What is your greatest
teaching accomplishment?
"My greatest accomplishment is being the fourth teacher in my state
to achieve National Board Certification. I am also proud of the number
of former students who are now teachers."
What's the most
critical issue facing educators today and what do you think can be done
to resolve this issue?
"The most critical issue facing educators today is keeping teachers
informed, enthused and involved in continuing their own professional growth.
If we don't stay interested in our own profession, we'll never interest
others. In order to resolve this issue there needs to be district budgets
to allow for more staff development. As well, teachers should form support
groups and use the Internet for on-line courses. Think professionally!
Act professionally!"
Inspirational thought
"'If better is an option, then good isn't enough.' As a life-long
learner I know there is room for 'better.'"
