Maryland Teacher of the Year
Ms. Storey teaches American Literature to grade eleven students at
River Hill High School in Clarksville, Maryland. She has been teaching
for twenty-seven years.
What are your beliefs
about teaching?
"I believe every child has the potential to learn. With utmost energy,
I strive to help teachers create exciting, hands-on, project-oriented
lessons that will prepare our youth for the 21st century."
How are your beliefs
incorporated in your teaching style?
"I use technology every day in my classroom. Through the integration
of technological solutions to deliver content, we can inspire students
to organize, research and process information with greater efficiency."
What is your greatest
teaching accomplishment?
"My greatest accomplishment has been creating a school-wide portfolio
project. In my school, every teacher designs a classroom portfolio for
students. These portfolios house the students' most significant projects
in that class. I am also very proud of the partnerships I have developed
to infuse more sophisticated technology in my school."
What's the most
critical issue facing educators today and what do you think can be done
to resolve this issue?
"The most critical issues facing educators today is the teacher shortage.
We need to honor the teaching profession, involve master teachers in the
hiring and dismissal process, provide significant professional development
opportunities for teachers and provide significant incentives beyond monetary
gains."
Inspirational thought:
"Ask your students what they have learned in class and listen
truly listen to what they say."
