community. She teaches Family and Consumer Science (formerly called Home

What are your beliefs
about teaching?
"I believe in empowering students to have a voice in their own learning.
I also believe that students have to be able to want to learn in order
to learn; therefore I always try to relate learning to a real-life challenge."
How are your beliefs
incorporated in your teaching style?
"I incorporate my beliefs by using service learning as a teaching
strategy whenever I can."
What is your greatest
teaching accomplishment?
"My greatest teaching accomplishment is the creation of the Community
Service Learning Program. This program teaches students how to become
involved with the young children and senior citizens in their community."
What's the most
critical issue facing educators today and what do you think can be done
to resolve this issue?
"The most critical issue facing educators today is the loss of students
from our schools. It is not our gifted students nor is it our identified
students, it is the quiet ones we lose. We can reach each and every student
by establishing mentorship programs within an advisor/advisee program
or through community-service learning programs."
Inspirational thought:
"I look at my own profession, Family and Consumer Science, and I
see how it has evolved over the past one hundred plus years. We need to
look to the future and how we can best utilize technology to remain current."
