Black tie reception and gala

April 24, 2002, Washington, DC

Chancey Veatch (2002 NTOY) and Willard C. Widerberg (1954 NTOY)
share a moment at the reception prior to the Black Tie Gala.

After starting their day at the White House to receive personal congratulations from the President, it only seemed fitting that the 2002 National Teacher of the Year and Nominees would spend the evening being treated royally at a black-tie gala. The Council of Chief State School Officers and Scholastic, Inc. hosted a wonderfully grand reception and dinner to wrap up the National Teacher of the Year events in Washington. Dressed in their finest, the teachers, hosts, sponsors and guests enjoyed an evening of good company, fine dining and fond reminiscing. There were a few tears shed, many heartfelt words of thanks, and above all, memories made that will certainly last a lifetime.
