The formal announcement and introduction of the National Teacher of the Year was made during a ceremony held in the White House Rose Garden. Amid onlookers of family, peers, supporters and press, the National Nominees emerged from the Oval Office one by one and were escorted to their seats in the Rose Garden. Proud smiles abounded as the teachers relished this once-in-a-lifetime experience, receiving personal congratulations from President George W. Bush. The tone was joyous and deep admiration and respect for these outstanding professionals were evident as we joined the President in honoring the teachers recognized as those best representing leadership and excellence in their state and country. Click on any picture to see a larger image President Bush spoke of the vitality and strength shown by the teachers as they've struggled to make a positive impact in today's uncertain world. He commended their perseverance and determination to build a positive future for the nation's children. The President expressed his personal gratitude for the important role each one of America's teachers undertakes in keeping the nation strong. He also spoke of the role he and all Americans must take in supporting and encouraging the efforts of teachers.
