2003 State Teacher of the Year Awards 

National Teacher of the Year Conference (USA) January 23–26, 2003


Jon Quam, Director of the National Teacher of the Year Organization, welcomes the 2003 State Teachers of the Year to the 2003 National Teacher of the Year Program Conference.
      

Karen Proctor opens the conference on behalf of Scholastic Inc, sponsor of the National Teacher of the Year Program.

Tom Houlihan, CCSSO, discusses the 'No Child Left Behind Act' and general teacher quality in the United States.

Joyce Graham, Scholastic Inc., discusses the teachers role in Professional Development.
     

Teachers from all states brought gifts to share with their colleagues. All participants were keen to share their local gifts and delights.

Jane Walters, Former Tennessee Commissioner of Education, Rosie Sorrells, Texas State Board of Education, Jeanne Gerlach, University of Texas-Arlington – hold a panel discussion on effectively working with policy makers.
 
     
Mary Beth Blegen, 1996 National Teacher of the Year holds a general session on Seeing, knowing and doing the message. Each group discusses their ideas amongst themselves and then shares with their colleagues.


     
At Lunch and Dinner, everyone had the opportunity to socialize with friends and colleagues.
 
     
     
The teachers work together in groups to form a consensus on the Teacher's Role in Professional Development
