2003 State Teacher of the Year Awards

White House Ceremony (April 30th, 2003)

President Bush spoke of the strength shown by teachers as they've struggled to make a positive impact in today's uncertain world. He commended their perseverance and their determination to build a positive future for the nation's children. The president expressed his personal gratitude for the important role each of America's teachers undertakes in keeping the nation strong. The president also spoke of the role he and all Americans must take in supporting and encouraging the efforts of teachers nationwide.

Betsy Rogers’ speech elicited nods of approval and agreement from her peers. She talked about the great necessity for educators to break down barriers and ensure that every student is provided an environment that fosters growth, confidence and development.

Secretary of Education Rod Paige stood proudly next to Dr. Rogers to honor her and the other teachers of America. Although Mr. Paige did not address the group personally, his presence spoke volumes about recognizing each teacher’s support of the No Child Left Behind Act.
