Henry McIntosh
Colorado Teacher of the Year
John Mall High School, Walsenburg, CO
Grades 9-12, A.P. English, Honors English
My teaching philosophy
Teaching is a God-given talent that requires passion, dedication and commitment.
Every student should have an opportunity to excel.
My philosophy in action
I teach numerous levels of classes to provide opportunities for all students:
A.P. literature and composition, A.P. language and composition, honors sophomore
and honors freshman English.
My greatest teaching accomplishment
My greatest accomplishment was to move to Huerfano School District RE-1 and
make a difference in the lives of students in a smaller school district.
The biggest issue facing educators today
The issue of attack on our public schools in general and the lack of trust and
commitment by the general public in reacting to the needs of public education.
My idea for resolving education issues
Hire more teachers with a passion to teach.
One thought to inspire other teachers
Michelangelo said that he saw an angel in the stone he carved, and he carved
to set it free. I see the student in the classroom and teach to set him free.
One lesson every student should learn
Students should learn how to think and reason for themselves.
