On the evening of April 20, 2004, the SMARTer Kids Foundation and its co-sponsors were delighted to host a relaxing dinner for the 2004 State Teachers of the Year and their guests in Washington. Held at the Wyndham Washington DC Hotel, the evening was a social opportunity for teachers and sponsors to get to know one another outside the technology training room.

Representatives from the Foundation and each of its co-sponsoring companies congratulated the teachers and thanked them for their invaluable contributions to education.

Special guests included:

	Jerry Daugherty from AlphaSmart Inc.
	Ron Gillies, Gretchen Gander, and Bob Guentner from NEC Solutions (America), Visual Systems Division
	Darrell Ward and his wife Donna from eInstruction Corp.
	David Martin and Joel Williams from SMART Technologies Inc.
	Nancy Knowlton and Karen Beagle from the SMARTer Kids Foundation

Two exciting announcements were made during the evening:

	Best Kar2ouche Storyboard Contest Winner Kathie Steele, Alaska TOY, was the winner of Immersive Education’s Best Kar2ouche Storyboard Contest. Kathie was awarded a trip for two to London, England. Congratulations, Kathie!
	AlphaSmart presents NTOY Award AlphaSmart honored National Teacher of the Year, Kathy Mellor, by presenting her with ten Dana by AlphaSmart laptop alternatives for her classroom. Congratulations Kathy!
