NTOY Gala Reception and Dinner

On April 21, 2004, an exciting day for the State Teachers of the Year was brought to a fitting close during a formal reception and gala held in Hall of States at the National Guard Building in Washington. Teachers of the Year enjoyed one another’s company over fine music, fine food and fine conversation.

It was also a joyous time to celebrate the day’s formal announcement of the National Teacher of the Year, Kathy Mellor. Smiling warmly in response to an admiring audience, Kathy thanked everyone for their support and friendship. Addressing her colleagues for the final time before returning to her home in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, Kathy offered some inspirational stories and anecdotes that ultimately led her to where she stood today.
