My teaching philosophy
I sincerely believe that my enthusiasm and love for learning and life provides
a positive example and inspiration for my students. Having a positive attitude
is an important part of teaching children. I genuinely appreciate and respect
children. I accept the responsibility for and feel it is my duty to give the
best I can each and every day.
My philosophy in action
My classroom is directed toward integrating all types of learners. Children
who are generally assigned to a categorical program or inclusion type classroom
are welcomed as members of my learning team. I work closely with parents and
support staff to provide a classroom experience where special needs children
are warmly accepted. Gifted children are challenged by open-ended projects and
higher-level thinking activities. All children are treated with compassion for
the challenges they confront in middle school. Helping to build a child’s
self esteem through positive reinforcement and repeated successes is integral
to my teaching belief system.
My greatest teaching accomplishment
The original reasons why I entered this career, were to educate, guide, and
care for children. These are still the most important and rewarding parts of
my job. Although I have won prestigious awards, my greatest accomplishments
are not the honors. The contributions to the profession that I am most proud
of are the successes I have had with over one thousand children. The relationships
that continue after the children leave my classroom are achievements that increase
the value of my life.
The most critical issues facing educators today
My research and personal experience have reinforced my belief in the need for
exemplary leadership qualities in administrators. Having taught in buildings
with extremely effective leadership, I recognize the benefits for the staff
and students. Teachers were supported for their teaching and for pursuing opportunities
that offer better learning experiences for students.
Ways to resolve this issue
Addressing the importance of effective leadership styles for principals would
be a positive step toward improving teacher satisfaction with administrators.
One thought to inspire teachers to succeed
We have the most important job in the world. Make every day your best, to help
make every day their best!
One lesson every student should learn
Every child needs to learn the value of him or herself. Only then, can they
truly value the lives of others.
